CRIME ALERT – Both of the burglaries below occurred on Monday, January 9, 2017, between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. and took place in close proximity to one another.

•  2200 BLOCK OF PORT ABERDEEN PL (17-00268) Occurred on: 1/9/2017 at 1:36 p.m.

 An unknown suspect(s) jumped the victim’s locked side gate, located a rear sliding glass door and shattered one side of the door.  At the time of the break-in the victim’s burglar alarm was activated.  The suspect(s) then climbed in through the large hole that was created and ran upstairs.  The suspect(s) entered the master bedroom and master closet, opened several drawers and removed the listed items before fleeing out the front door. 
 
The victim had left to run a quick errand and had only been gone for about 15 minutes, when she returned home and discovered the break-in.  It appears the suspect(s) were in and out of the home in less than 4 minutes.
 
Loss:  9 watches, jewelry, cufflinks, 2 wall candle holders, jewelry box and a tablecloth.
 
Suspect information:  None seen or heard.
 

• 1900 BLOCK OF PORT LOCKSLEIGH PL (17-00275) Occurred on: 1/9/2017 at 1:20 p.m., Reported to police at 4:05 p.m.

 Two unknown suspects, described below, attempted to break into the victim’s home while he was at work.  A nanny who was at home when the attempt burglary occurred and had just come downstairs and was in the kitchen.  One suspect was seen looking into the home through a glass door and he then grabbed both door handles and attempt to open the doors.  The second suspect was seen standing several feet away, at the corner of the house.  The suspects saw the nanny inside the kitchen and quickly fled toward a locked side gate.  A white vehicle was seen speeding off eastbound on Port Locksleigh.
 
When the victim arrived home and learned of the attempt burglary, he immediately called police.
 
Loss:  None
 
Suspect information: 

1. Male Black, 5’8” tall, thin build, between 25 – 30 yrs., wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, he also had the lower half of his face covered.  The suspect was also wearing blue gardening style gloves with small white dots on the palms.
2. Male Black, 5’ 6” tall, thin build, between 25 – 30 yrs., wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and the lower half of his face covered.  This suspect was also wearing blue gardening style gloves.

Suspect vehicle: Described as a white, 4-door, small SUV or cross-over style vehicle.

Home Security Tips

• Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.
• If you return home and find your pedestrian door that leads into your home locked, and you are certain that you left it unlocked, DO NOT GO INSIDE! 
• Call 9-1-1 ~ Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.
• If your home is equipped with an alarm, always activate it even if you’re only going out for a short walk.
  • Consider adding a motion sensor in your master bedroom/bathroom, which will activate the alarm if someone comes in through a glass window or door without opening it.
• Always keep your front and rear porch lights on from dusk to dawn and use motion detector lighting along the sides of your home or areas with little foot traffic.
• Use timers on indoor lamps to give the appearance that you are home.
• Adjust window coverings for optimal privacy while maintaining good visibility outside.
• If your garage door has a remote shutoff button on the wall-mounted control, located in the garage, consider locking the door nightly. This will prevent your garage door from being opened remotely.
• If you have a safe, make sure that it is properly bolted to concrete so that it cannot be easily removed.
• Always close and lock your safe and never leave a key or combination out or in an easy to find location (i.e. office, nightstand, etc).
• When you leave on vacation, remember to call the Police Department for a “Vacation Check” 949-644-3681 or sign-up online at www.nbpd.org. Also, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail while you are away.
