Suspect at Large in Berkeley's First Homicide of 2017

On 1/6/17 at approximately 11:42am, Berkeley Police responded to the 2600 block of Ridge Road to make contact with a woman who was the victim of an apparent stabbing.  Officers arrived minutes later and found the seriously wounded victim and the person who had called on her behalf.  Officers provided medical attention until the Berkeley Fire Department arrived on scene and transported her to a local hospital.  She remains in the hospital receiving treatment for her injuries but is listed in stable condition.

During the course of the investigation, officers are lead to an address on the 2400 block of Ashby Avenue.  It was clear that based on the evidence found at the scene, a violent crime had occurred there.  It wasn’t until much later that the body of an as of yet, unidentified person was discovered.

As homicide detectives pursued leads in the case the person pictured here was developed as the primary suspect for both the homicide and the stabbing.  He has been identified as Pablo Gomez Jr. 24, of North Hollywood, California.  Gomez is described a Hispanic male, 5-06, 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.  A witness who saw him earlier in the day reported that he had shaved his head which may have been done in an effort to alter his appearance.

Gomez is believed to be armed and a danger to the community.  We are urging anyone who has information as to his whereabouts to contact the Berkeley Police Homicide Detail at (510) 981-5741.

Instructions:

If Gomez is spotted, Community members are urged to immediately call 9-1-1.
