PARKING AROUND JANESVILLE SCHOOLS
We all want safe and secure environments for our children, and that includes getting them to and from school. With the cold weather and snow piles are making driving city streets more challenging, we offer this friendly reminder that everyone pay close attention to traffic and parking rules.
• Plan with your children where you will meet them!
• Arrange "pick up" places where your children can't jay walk.
• Tell your children to cross only at crosswalks.
• Avoid parking in or near crosswalks where safety patrol cadets and crossing guards are helping children get safely across the street.
• Avoid double parking. Many children have been injured running across streets or between stopped vehicles at their parent's signal.
• Avoid parking in a "bus loading zone" area, within 4ft of a driveway, within 5ft of a mailbox, and within 15ft of an intersection or crosswalk.
• Discuss "safe and legal parking areas" around your school at your PTA/PTO meetings and plan for logical and hazard free places where parents who drive may pick-up children.
LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS A SAFE SCHOOL YEAR FOR OUR CHILDREN!
