*Update* #LASD Homicide Assist Pomona PD with Officer-Involved Shooting, 900 blk N San Antonio Av, Pomona

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are assisting Pomona Police Department with investigating the circumstances that lead to an Officer-Involved Shooting. The incident occurred Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., on the 900 block of North San Antonio Avenue, Pomona.

Detectives have learned that a citizen called “9-1-1” to report a male black adult, was shooting into an apartment at the location.  Pomona Police Officers responded, and located the suspect walking in the vicinity of East Columbia Avenue and North San Antonio Avenue, armed with a handgun. During this time, an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.

The suspect ran into an alley that was located on the rear of the apartment located at the 900 block of North San Antonio Avenue.

An additional exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and Pomona Officers. The suspect was struck by gunfire.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

During their investigation, detectives have learned that there were three officers who discharged their weapons. None of the officers on scene were injured.

The investigation revealed prior to the officer’s arrival on scene, the suspect went into a residence on San Antonio Avenue where he shot and wounded a male Black adult in the upper torso, before shooting a female Black adult in the upper and lower torso. The suspect fled that residence, and fired into a second residence on San Antonio Avenue.  A short time after, officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect.

The handgun, believed to have been used by the suspect, was recovered at the scene.

The victims were transported to a local hospital where they are being treated for gunshot wounds and are in fair condition.

The motive for the shooting is unclear and detectives are still investigating whether the suspect knew the victims prior to the shooting incident.

The suspect’s identity is unknown at this time.
