Fatal Traffic Accident
Dearborn, Mi. — On January 2nd, 2017 at approximately 12:40am a Dodge Caravan was involved in a pursuit with the Detroit Police Department. As the Dodge fled from Detroit police, southbound on Whitcomb, it was stuck by a Ford Focus traveling eastbound on Tireman. The Dodge lost control, but continued south on Coleman Street in Dearborn striking several unoccupied parked vehicles. The passenger of the Dodge, a 23 year old male Redford TWP resident, was pronounced dead at scene. The driver, a 23 year old Detroit resident, was transported to an area hospital where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Ford, a male Detroit resident, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The passenger, a female Kalamazoo resident, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
This incident is still under investigation. It’s unknown if alcohol is a contributing factor in this case.
Dearborn Police Chief Haddad stated, “This incident is a terrible tragedy and our condolences go out to all the families involved. This is still and active ongoing investigation and all other informational requests should be directed to the Detroit Police Department.
