D.U.I Ends in Hit and Run and Arrest

On Wednesday December 28, at 9:17 am, Morgan Hill Police Officers were in the area of Monterey Rd and Vineyard Blvd when a computer check on a vehicle’s license plate revealed the vehicle’s make did not match the license plate.

Based on the information Officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on the vehicle but the driver ignored the command to pull over and fled northbound on Monterey Rd in an attempt to evade police. The driver headed towards downtown driving erratically and blatantly disregarding traffic lights, because of his driving the pursuit was terminated for the safety of the public.

Approximately two minutes later, Morgan Hill Officers arrived at the scene of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Monterey Road and Madrone Parkway. Officers discovered the suspect’s vehicle from the pursuit was involved in the collision and witnesses said the occupants ran from the scene of the collision prior to police arrival. The female passenger, Nikki Rodriguez (32-years-old, from San Jose, CA), was taken into custody a short distance from the collision scene. The male driver, Manuel Alvarez (41-years-old, from Oakland, CA) fled on foot and was taken into custody without incident in nearby residential neighborhood. The suspects were placed under arrest and transported back to the Morgan Hill Police Department.

The suspects were charged with felony evading, felony hit & run, felony DUI, and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia. Suspect Rodriguez also had a $25,000 narcotics violation warrant out of San Jose Police Department. Both suspects were later transported and booked in to the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
