Detectives conduct an In-Custody Death Investigation in Trona 
DATE/TIME: December 23, 2016 3:19 p.m.
INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: 84000 block of 12th Street, Trona
SUSPECT: Jonathan Barrio, 35 years old (DOB:04/10/81), resident of Trona
SUMMARY:
On Friday, December 23, 2016 at 3:19 p.m. the Trona deputy was called to the 12th Street location reference an unwanted subject. The deputy arrived and made contact with Jonathan Barrio, who matched the description of the unwanted subject. Barrio appeared to be under the influence. The deputy attempted to arrest/handcuff Barrio, when Barrio became combative. Barrio was eventually placed in the back seat of the patrol car and he was hobbled. Barrio experienced a medical emergency and stopped breathing. Medical aid began immediately and he was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Ridgecrest. Barrio was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sheriff’s Specialized Investigators were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.
An autopsy will be conducted by Kern County Coroner Officials to determine the cause of death.
