HCSO: Introduces two new members to the MOD (Mobile Odor Detection) K9 Team

HARRIS COUNTY, TX - On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, K9s4COPs is donating to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, two new Mobile Odor Detection K9’s that will push the number of MOD K9’s to four. These K9’s have been trained to follow scents back to its place of origin in large crowds. These magnificent K9s will be used in high pedestrian traffic situations such as the Super Bowl and other large events.

The K9’s have been named Max, who is a Dutch Shepherd, and handler is Deputy Timothy Lauder, and Dario who is a Belgian Malinois, and handler is be Deputy John Palermo. K9 Dario is named after fallen HSCO Deputy Darren Goforth.

Both these K9s were generously donated by K9s4COPs, a 501 (c)(3) organization, to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Funds for K9 Dario were generously donated in part by Mr. Clinton T. Laechelin. He wanted to pay tribute to Deputy Goforth for his heroic actions and commitment to law enforcement. Dario in Spanish means Darren.

Both K9’s and handlers have gone through an extensive six week course of training and both K9s have graduated in Mobil Odor Detection at Alderhorst International, which is based in California.

K9s4COPs has been a major contributor to many law enforcement agencies and school district agencies by generously providing drug and explosive detection K9s at no cost to the public.

K9s4COPs has placed over 120 K9s in 25 states and most recently Paris, France after the terrorist bombing in November 2015, where a K9 “Diesel” was lost in the line of duty. K9s4COPs K9s have been directly involved in removing more than $125,000,000 in cash and contraband off the streets and they are responsible for more the 1,400 arrests in less than five years. www.K9s4COPs.org
