INDIANAPOLIS - Quick reacting officers apprehend an armed robbery suspect who is alleged to have robbed a victim of approximately $15,000.00 in cash.

On 12/16/16 just before 11:30 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were flagged down by a witness in the 5700 block of East Washington Street, Huntington Bank, reference robbery of a person that had just occurred. A witness showed officers, where the suspect had ran to after committing what the witness believed, was an armed robbery of a person. As officers were searching the area, the suspect was found coming out of a nearby alley and getting into a gray vehicle. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle instead fled from officers until it crashed into a brick fence in the 75th block of North Audubon Street. The suspect got out of and fled from the vehicle, and as the suspect was running, he dropped a gun and then threw a bag similar to a grocery bag over a fence. Officers had to tackle the suspect and after a short distance, pursuing officers were successful at taking the suspect into custody without further incident.

Officers recovered the bag thrown over the fence containing approximately over $15,000.00 in cash, and several other items, including the dropped gun, believed used to commit the earlier armed robbery. Detectives believe that the suspect had just robbed, while armed, a victim making a business deposit. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Olugbalah Ridley of Indianapolis. The suspect was arrested and preliminarily charged with robbery, kidnapping, and intimidation, and transported to the Arrestee Processing Center to be processed. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the investigative facts of the case and make a charging decision.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department continues to be extremely thankful and grateful for the willingness of citizens to assist the police to identify and apprehend suspects who are alleged to have committed crimes.
