INCIDENT:  2 DUI/DL Checkpoints in the city of Petaluma net 2 DUI arrests.

SUMMARY:
On December 16, 2016 the Petaluma Police Dept. conducted two DUI/DL Checkpoints. Checkpoint 1 was on Sonoma Mtn. Parkway south of Corona Rd. and began at 6:15 PM. Checkpoint number 2 was on Petaluma Blvd. North south of  Lakeville St. and began at 10:50 PM and ended at 2:15 AM.  These locations were selected due to the number of DUI arrests and collision in the past 5 years.

Officers were monitoring traffic through the two checkpoints looking for drivers who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs or could not provide a current driver’s license.  
 
The following are statistics from the two checkpoints.
 
Checkpoint 1: Sonoma Mountain Parkway
Vehicles through Checkpoint: 375
Drivers screened through checkpoint: 370
Number of Drivers evaluated for Driving Under the Influence: 6
Drivers cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license: 1
Drivers cited for driving without a license: 0
Drivers arrested for DUI: 1
Drivers cited for having an open alcohol container in their car: 1
Checkpoint 2: Petaluma Blvd. North
Vehicles through checkpoint: 281
Drivers screened through checkpoint: 274
Number of drivers evaluated for Driving Under the Influence: 24
Drivers arrested for DUI: 1
Drivers cited for driving on a suspended license: 1
Drivers cited for driving unlicensed: 2
 
 
One of the drivers arrested from the Sonoma Mountain Parkway Checkpoint was 37 year old Ryan Hayford from Petaluma. Hayford had objective signs of being under the influence and performed poorly on FST’s and had a .11 Blood Alcohol Level on a preliminary breath test. He was issued a citation for DUI and released to a sober driver.
 
During the second checkpoint of Petaluma Blvd. Jordan Rakes a 28 year old male from Santa Rosa also had objective signs of being under the influence of alcohol and performed poorly on FST’s and had a .13 Blood Alcohol Level on a preliminary breath test. He was also issued a citation to appear for DUI and released to a sober driver.
