This morning the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) responded with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a call of two women stranded on a small patch of dirt in the middle of the rapidly rising San Gabriel River near the intersection of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, and the Pomona (60) Freeway. 
 
Despite storm conditions LASD Air Rescue 5 flew over the area to attempt a rescue.  They saw the women clinging to debris in the river.  An LASD Tactical Medic was lowered from the aircraft onto the riverbed to rescue the women.  Both women were hoisted into the LASD Air Rescue 5 aircraft.   While rescuing the women the rescue crew saw a litter of puppies that belonged to the women.  The rescue crew went back into the riverbed and rescued six puppies and four adult dogs.  Both women and all 10 dogs were flown to safety.  They were assessed for injuries by LASD Tactical Medics and assisted by LASD homeless liaison personnel to obtain shelter.
