Modesto, CA – Shortly before 8:00 p.m. last night, Fire and AMR were dispatched to a solo vehicle accident at the intersection of Coldwell Avenue and N. 9th Street. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders discovered a single unresponsive male victim. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver, and solo occupant of the vehicle, has been identified as 59-year-old Bill Verhaegen of Patterson. Investigation of this incident is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate that Verhaegen may suffered a medical emergency at the time of the accident.

As a standard procedure in a fatal vehicle collision, the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit has initiated a comprehensive collision investigation and encourages anyone with information to call Officer Phillips at (209) 342-9153.
