108th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade - NBPD's tips for a fun (and safe!) experience

The Annual Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Harbor is a terrific holiday tradition that draws thousands of spectators to the harbor and the shore line in the bay.  With this come the challenges of increased traffic and significant parking challenges on the peninsula, Balboa Island and areas surrounding the harbor.  The Newport Beach Police Department would like to provide some reminders this holiday season that will help in making your Boat Parade experience that much more enjoyable:

  • Plan ahead.  Consider the increased traffic and parking challenges.  Note that turns from Coast Highway onto southbound Jamboree will not be allowed before and during the event in order to improve traffic flow.
  • Consider carpooling with friends, walking, or using alternate transportation (Uber, Lyft, etc.).
  • If you do drive, give yourself plenty of time to arrive and find parking.  Public parking is often full before sunset.
  • Park legally.  There is no parking in red zones, on corners, in alleys, or blocking driveways.  Parking Enforcement Officers will be on hand to provide reminders (tickets or tows) for folks who forget to follow the rules.
  • No alcohol in public.
  • Bicyclists: follow the rules of the road.  Remember to use required lighting and wear reflective clothing.
  • Pedestrians: use crosswalks.  Consider waiting to cross in groups to help with traffic flow and visibility.  Do not cross mid-block; drivers are not expecting you.
  • Report suspected drunk drivers.  Be a true friend; don’t let friends drive buzzed/drunk.
We hope you have a great Boat Parade experience.  Happy Holidays!
