On 12/10/16, at 2315 hours, multiple officers responded to a fight to the rear of Smart & Final that involved multiple subjects. While at the scene, a victim of a stabbing was located with a non-life threatening injury and later transported to the Simi Valley Hospital. The two suspects involved in the stabbing were reported to have fled the scene on foot.

During an area check, one suspect was located and arrested. It should be noted that the suspect sustained multiple injuries during the fight with the victims’ friends and was transported to the Simi Hospital for his injuries. The second suspect was not located and was described as a white male adult wearing dark clothing.

The fight was in the vicinity of the Masjid Al-Rasool Mosque and the victim was associated with the mosque. The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was targeted because of his appearance and association with the mosque

The arrested suspect was listed as John Matteson (29yrs) of Simi Valley. He was booked for 415PC, 422PC and 422.7PC.
