Novato resident arrested after intentionally striking a road construction worker with a vehicle.
On 12/02/2016, at approximately 8:45 AM, Novato Police responded to the area of Center Road at Plaza Linda on the report of a road construction worker who was intentionally hit by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle had reportedly left the scene of the collision. It was determined that the driver of the vehicle became aggressive with the construction worker after she presented a stop sign and stopped the vehicle for road construction going on in the area. The driver yelled threatening statements at the construction worker and then accellerated his vehicle toward the victim, striking her. The driver then fled the scene. The driver of the suspect vehicle later contacted the Novato Police Department to report that he had been involved in the incident and returned to the police department. The driver, John Bee of Novato, was placed under arrest and booked at the Marin County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (vehicle). The construction worker was treated by Novato Fire Department for minor injuries and released at the scene.
Novato Police Department would like to remind drivers that road construction zones are there to improve the roads that we all drive on. They are no place for impatient or aggressive driving. The signs and other directions given at roadwork zones are intended to get you, your family and other motorists around you to your destination safely. Consideration for the safety of construction workers and other motorists can help turn roadwork construction sites into “Safe Zones” for everyone.
