The Chickasha police chief requested OSBI investigate a fatal officer-Involved shooting that occurred overnight. Six OSBI special agents responded to the scene - 1908 W. Montana. Investigators have learned that several officers responded to a disturbance call at that location at approximately 2 a.m. Officers were told the man causing the disturbance had a gun. When officers went inside the house and approached the room where the subject and a family member were, officers announced they were there. When officers entered the room, Steve Dwayne Vananda (d.o.b. 8/8/1960) grabbed a handgun. Vananda and one officer exchanged gunfire. Vananda was struck at least one time and died at the scene. The officer who fired his weapon is on routine paid administrative leave. OSBI will gather information and evidence and present that information in a written report to the district attorney. The district attorney will determine
whether the shooting was justified. OSBI will not release the name of the officer since he is the subject of the investigation.
