Michigan Avenue Update

Some exciting progress has been made this past week on the project with the restoration of traffic back on Michigan Ave and the mill and over-lay of the former detour route (Monroe to Henry to Old Creek to Michigan Ave). The Michigan Ave project sure has been blessed with some terrific weather from beginning to end! Because of the great weather Hoffman Bros. and their many sub-contractors have been able to achieve much success towards completion of the project.
Reminder that the City of Saline is still selling pieces of the old street car tracks on a first come first served basis at City Hall, for those folks that would like to own a piece of Saline history. The cost is $25 for a 12” section of track; a portion of the proceeds will be used to pay for the cost of cutting up the track with the balance going towards a fundraiser to assist in paying for the new downtown streetscape.
Week of November 21st:

Traffic Information
All streets are scheduled to be open this coming week. We will continue to see intermittent lane closures and construction barrels at various locations on Michigan Ave and N. & S. Ann Arbor Streets as crews continue to work towards completion of the project.
Note: The entrance to Curtiss Park is closed while the new concrete entrance cures. The park entrance is scheduled to re-open by the end of next week.
Note: Full access from N. Ann Arbor Street to Downtown Parking Lot #1 (NE quadrant of downtown) has been completely restored. Hall Street is scheduled to be restored to one-way traffic as of Monday, November 14th. This means that vehicles will no longer be able to access Hall Street from McKay Street as of Monday, November 7th.
City staff encourages everyone to slow down, be patient and obey the traffic signs. In addition, please do not take short-cuts through private property in an attempt to avoid the current traffic shifts/detour routes, as it is illegal and unsafe. And please pause to let people out of their driveways.
Pedestrian Traffic
The majority of concrete sidewalk has been installed throughout the project. However, pedestrians need to be aware of any temporary pedestrian detours from time to time as the project is completed. There are parts of the construction zone that are not open to pedestrian traffic. There are also signs designating alternate pedestrian routes throughout the construction zone. Please obey the signs and seek alternate pedestrian routes that don’t include walking down the middle of re-routed traffic lanes.
Construction Activities
Asphalt paving along detour route on Monday, if weather on Saturday does not allow paving to take place.
New trees and landscaping installation continues.
Decorative brick installation continues.
Manhole adjusting on south side of Michigan Ave.
Decorative lighting work will continue (installing light pole bases, pulling wire, standing light poles).
Crews are scheduled to begin removing the temporary traffic signals on Henry Street at the S. Ann Arbor, S. Harris, and Old Creek intersections this coming week.
Note: DTE’s contractor will begin sidewalk replacement related to their gas main relocation project this coming week (this includes the landscape wall and sidewalk at the Michigan Ave/Maple Road intersection
Please stay tuned for updates as the Michigan Ave project progresses. The City of Saline staff will be providing a minimum of a weekly update and sometimes daily informational postings depending on what is taking place in the construction zone.
