Traffic Stop Leads to Major Narcotics Arrest by Southport Police

On Monday, November 14th, 2016, Southport Police Department officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the 200 block of Walnut Street in Southport. Upon conducting a traffic stop of the vehicle, it was learned the driver, 29 year old Esteban Abrego, had never been issued a valid license. The passenger of the vehicle, 33 year old Ramon Estrada, also did not have a valid driver's license.

When officers searched the vehicle prior to towing it, they located over 20 grams of black tar heroin. Also seized was over $3000 in U.S. currency. Because the incident occurred within 500 feet of Southport Elementary School, both men were charged with level 2 felony Dealing in a Narcotic Drug and level 4 Possession of a Narcotic Drug. They are both currently being held in the Marion County Jail.
