In our continued effort to build stronger relationships and trust with the community we serve, the WCSO began by hosting a three-part educational series consisting of six different topic areas. During those first few sessions we were asked to continue the series and add additional topics. In light of recent events this session will include:

Community Education Series #5: Nov. 21 @ WCC. Topics will include Strategies for Responding to Alleged Ethnic Intimidation.
Sheriff Jerry L. Clayton and the WCSO with the support of the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners, BOC Chair Felicia Brabec, and County Administer Greg Dill, would like to announce the fifth installment of our WCSO community education series.
Strategies for Responding to Alleged Ethnic Intimidation or Discrimination Related Incidents in Washtenaw County
This session will focus on the criminal elements of the Ethnic Intimidation Statute (Hate Crimes) and will feature the Michigan Department of Civil Rights as they discuss how they respond to allegations of discrimination. Topic area 9 - Criminal Elements of the Ethnic Intimidation Statute (Hate Crimes)
Topic area 10 - Responding to Allegations of Discrimination
Topic area 11 - Helping our Children and Adolescents Navigate an Intimidating Climate
Each session will be facilitated/instructed by Sheriff Clayton and community partners and will consist of a 40 minute class room discussion of each topic area followed by a question and answer period. If you are interested in learning the specifics behind these topics please join us.
Our Just 'Cause sessions are intimate discussions between the community and deputies over lunch. Our ENPACT workshops are solution focused, all day working sessions between 30 community members and 30 deputies. Our Town Hall meeting gathered over 600 residents in a discussion with community leaders. Now, our educational series will offer great detail to the six most commonly questioned aspects of law enforcement.
