Advisory

NBPD is aware of the strong smell of gas - it IS NOT a natural gas leak. Click on link for further details.

The Newport Beach Police Department has been fielding numerous 911 calls in the last 30 minutes, reporting the strong smell of natural gas in the area, specifically affecting the peninsula area of our city.

Be advised, after speaking with Huntington Beach Police, as well as the Southern California Gas Company, the odor is being detected up and down the coastline from Newport Beach, Huntington Beach to the Bolsa Chica beach area. Per SoCalGas Company, it is NOT natural gas, it is sulfur coming from an off-shore oil rig.

There is no need to diall 911 or call us to report the smell. If you have any questions regarding the odor, please contact the Southern California Gas Company at (800) 427-2200.

Thank you for you understanding and cooperation.
