NARRATIVE: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two male adults and the injury of two female adults in the 500 block of West 4th Street, Azusa.
Detectives have identified the suspect as 45-year-old Carlos Mendez, a resident of Azusa.
The investigation is on-going and there is no further information at this time.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two male adults and the injury of two female adults in the 500 block of West 4th Street, Azusa.
Detectives have learned that the suspect was on a cocaine binge. The suspect stepped outside his residence and began shooting at cars. The suspect shot one female victim who was driving a van, which later crashed. The suspect walked up to a neighbor and shot him.
The suspect shot another female victim who was outside down the street.
Azusa Police Department responded to the location regarding a “shots fired” call. Upon their arrival, the suspect began shooting at officers. The Azusa officers, as well as an Irwindale Police officer returned fire. The suspect was struck and killed by police gunfire.
A search of the suspect’s residence revealed that the suspect was in possession of a handgun, assault rifle, shotgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
The female victims, a 65 year old and a 59 year old, are both listed in “critical condition” at this time.
The deceased male adult victim was 77 years old.
The suspect was a 45 year-old male Hispanic.
The investigation is on-going and there is no further information at this time.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives responded to the 200 block East 1st Street, Azusa to assistant Azusa Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two male adults and the injury of two female adults.
One male victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead and two female adults were also transported to a local hospital where they are listed in both in critical condition.
A male adult suspect was located and the location and pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
