Fatal Hit and Run Collision Update

Sunnyvale, California - On 10/24/16 at approximately 1028 hours, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety police and fire personnel responded to the area of Fremont Ave east of Sunnyvale-Saratoga Rd. on a reported major injury collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist. The bicyclist, a 67 year old female, sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by ambulance to Valley Medical Center. The bicyclist has since died as a result of her injuries. 

The driver of the involved vehicle, a 2009-2010, white, 4-door, Acura TSX, fled the scene after the collision at a high rate of speed.  Prior to the collision, the vehicle traveled eastbound on Fremont Ave, passing Fremont High School.  After the collision, the vehicle continued eastbound on Fremont Ave, then southbound on Wolfe Rd toward Cupertino.  The driver was described as having dark hair in a ponytail. The suspect vehicle likely had damage to the front bumper, hood, and windshield. The suspect and suspect vehicle are still outstanding. (Suspect vehicle photo is attached.)

This collision is still under investigation by the Sunnyvale DPS Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Any witnesses to the traffic collision or anyone with information about the suspect vehicle are asked to contact MAIT Investigator Dzanh Le. (408) 730-7109.
