Detectives arrest a couple for attempted murder, among other charges, for shooting at a car with 2 small children inside

DATE/TIME: October 31, 2016 / 3:24 PM

INCIDENT: Attempted Murder, Discharge Firearm in Occupied vehicle, Assault with Firearm, Child Endangerment, Criminal Threats

LOCATION: N State St & W Darby St, San Bernardino (Muscoy), CA

VICTIM: Confidential (2 Adults with 2 small Children)

SUSPECT: Jose Luis Saldivar, 38 and Connie Antonia Rivera, 38 residents of San Bernardino, CA

SUMMARY: On Monday, October 31, 2016 at approximately 3:24 PM, the victim’s drove their two small children to the Five & Fly Pizza located on the 1700 block of Highland Avenue in the City of San Bernardino. As the family was leaving the restaurant parking lot, they accidently bumped into a Light Blue Chevy Equinox driven by a Hispanic male, later identified as Jose Saldivar and a Hispanic female passenger, later identified as Connie Rivera.

The victims apologized to Saldivar and Rivera and left the location. Saldivar followed the victims to the intersection of N. State St. & W. Darby St, where he pulled along the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle and fired a shot with a pistol at the victims. Saldivar missed the victims by inches and fled the area. The victim’s immediately called 911 and reported the incident to the police. An extensive search by air and ground units was conducted with negative results.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, Central Station Detectives began an extensive investigation that led to the discovery of high resolution color video which provided a license plate to the suspect vehicle. The registered owner, Saldivar, matched the description provided by the victims and he was identified by the victims during a photo lineup.

The investigation continued, leading to the identification of Rivera as the female passenger riding with Saldivar. Arrest warrants and a search warrant were obtained for the suspects and their residence in San Bernardino.

During the early morning hours on Friday, November 4, 2016, both Saldivar and Rivera were getting ready to leave their residence in the suspect vehicle. They were taken into custody without incident. Saldivar was discovered to have a loaded revolver concealed in his front pants pocket at the time of his arrest.

The search warrant was served at their home and led to the discovery of multiple assault rifles, handguns, ammunition, high capacity magazines and manufactured/ altered gun parts that were being made by Saldivar in his garage. Both Saldivar and Rivera have an extensive criminal history with various charges. Rivera is a convicted felon with prior prison terms. Both were arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center.
