Crime Prevention Tips

Property crimes have a significant impact on communities.  Whether it is a career criminal or a crime of opportunity most burglars don’t put a great deal of thought in planning a job.  However, knowing how they may select a target can help us reduce the chances of being a victim.

  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, particularly in plain view
  • Always lock your home and vehicles and activate alarms if you have them
  • When you are away for days at a time try to get a home sitter
  • Leave exterior lights on…don’t give thieves a dark area to work in
  • If your budget allows it get a security system and/or dog
  • Don’t let mail or newspapers pile up
  • Put timers on interior lights to come on at appropriate times…make it look as if someone is home
  • Keep shrubs, trees etc. trimmed so there is a clear view of the exterior
  • Have your home phone forwarded to your cell phone…some burglars will call to see if anyone answers

Remember! Thieves don’t like to be seen.  Your goal should be to make your home look the same whether you are there or away.
