Pasadena Police Share Halloween Safety Tips: Be Safe this Halloween
HALLOWEEN SAFETY FOR KIDS, TEENS, AND PARENTS
PASADENA, CA – Kids love dressing up in costume, going house to house trick-or-treating, or participating in Harvest Day/Halloween celebrations! Have fun, but keep your October 31st activities safe by following these safety tips:
• Don’t trick-or-treat alone. Walk in groups and/or with a TRUSTED ADULT.
• Always WALK and don’t run from house to house.
• Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and for others to see you, especially motorists.
• Wear reflective materials with your costumes and on your bags to help drivers see you.
• Look both ways before crossing the street and use crosswalks wherever possible. DON'T ASSUME THE DRIVER SEES YOU AND WILL STOP!
• If you are a young teen and going out with friends, make sure your parents know where you are going, who you are with and how to get a hold of you AT ALL TIMES
• Only visit well-lit houses and never go inside.
• Avoid wearing masks that block your view.
• Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short and flexible to avoid injuries.
• Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers. Be careful for food allergies.
• Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating.
• Never accept rides from strangers or with someone your parent did not approve of beforehand.
• Carry a fully charged cellphone for emergencies.
Remember, if you “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” about suspicious activity or people lurking in your neighborhood or appear to be following you. Report observations promptly to your local police.
