The Covington Police Department would like to remind citizens to be mindful of their surroundings tonight while they enjoy the Halloween festivities. One of the issues citizens should be aware of is sex offenders in the areas they are trick-or-treating.
Louisiana law prohibits convicted sex offenders from distributing candy or gifts during Halloween to any persons under the age of eighteen. In addition, sex offenders are also prohibited from wearing any type of hood, mask or disguise during Halloween. A list of all registered sex offenders inside the city limits, including links to their pictures, is below.
In addition, citizens should follow these basic tips for a safe and fun Halloween night:

• Trick-or-treat between the hours of 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
• Wear some type of reflective device after dark
• Stay on side-walks, and off of the roadway as much as possible
• Keep your children close by and always be mindful of passing motorists

 
The Covington Police Department will have additional officers on hand tonight patrolling subdivisions and keeping everyone safe. Should you see a registered sex offender giving out candy to children or taking part in Halloween, please call 911 and an officer will respond.
