UPDATE: AFD Responds to Unoccupied Trailer Fire in the 2600 Block of A Street

UPDATE: The structure involved in last night's fire was determined to be a large detached cargo trailer modified for storage and not intended for human occupancy, as there had been a report made to fire crews of homeless activity in and around the trailer. A total loss, contents were determined to include stored furnishings, books and clothing. No monetary damage amount has been given, and the cause and origin of the fire is undetermined at this time.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: AFD Dispatch received a 911 call at 9:09 P.M. reporting a possible abandoned trailer on fire in the 2600 block of A Street. First AFD units arrived on location within four minutes and reported finding a detached trailer with boarded windows and smoke showing. 

Heavy fire conditions were reported upon entry into the trailer by fire crews. The fire was declared under control within 18 minutes. Search of the trailer found no occupants. 

Overhaul operations are underway but most units have been placed back in service. The cause of the fire is being investigated. No damage estimate is available at this time and no injuries have been reported. A total of twelve AFD fire apparatus and command and support elements were initially dispatched to the scene.
