Tippecanoe County-Yesterday at approximately 11:45 a.m. on I-65 southbound near the 178 mile marker (that is the SR 43 exit), a trooper stops a vehicle for following too close and discovers a kilo of Heroin.

Trooper Ben Rector was in full uniform driving his unmarked Gray Dodge Charger, when he observed a 2008 Dodge Magnum allegedly following to close.  As he made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, he observed indicators of criminal activity.  Trooper Jared McQueary and Senior Trooper Ryan Winters arrived to assist. The passenger, Lamont E Outlay, 30 of Dolton, IL was removed from the vehicle and during an officer safety pat down, Senior Trooper Winters discovered a suspected Kilo of Heroin.  The suspected value was approximately $50,000.  Outlay was remanded to the Tippecanoe County Jail on preliminary charges of dealing a schedule 1 substance, possession of a schedule 1 substance, and visiting a common nuisance.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
