On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at about 7:15 a.m., a 10 year old female student of Bonita Unified School District reported she was approached by a vehicle containing two adult males as she waited for a school bus on Allen Avenue in San Dimas.  The vehicle, described as an older rusted green truck with a tool rack in the truck bed, slowed as the driver asked the student if she needed a ride.   The student said “no” and backed away as the truck drove off in an easterly direction on Allen Avenue.  The men were described as Hispanic, 20 to 30 years old, with black hair and no other facial hair or sunglasses.  As soon as the school bus arrived, the bus driver ensured that the school and law enforcement were notified. The Bonita Unified School District sent an email notification to parents and guardians of students at the involved school. 

The Sheriff’s Department would like to provide parents and students with advice on handling situations of this nature.  Children should be taught the concept of, “Stranger danger,” and that they should yell and move away from anyone asking them to go with them.  The following link has tips for talking to your child about how to handle “stranger danger.”

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident, and will provide additional visible presence in the area.  We recommend that anyone who sees a small, older, rusted, green truck with a green or dark tool rack should report it.  Anyone with information regarding this truck or this incident is asked to call San Dimas Station at (909)450-2700.

The Station’s jurisdiction encompasses approximately 276 square miles. In addition to serving the City of San Dimas, the station serves unincorporated communities of Azusa, Covina, Glendora, La Verne, Claremont, Pomona, the Los Angeles County portion of Mt. Baldy, a large portion of the Angeles National Forest (State Route 39), and portions of Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2). The population for these areas is approximately one hundred and five thousand (105,000), nearly sixty sixty-nine thousand (69,000) in the unincorporated areas and more than thirty-six thousand (36,000) in the City of San Dimas.
