"Keep Zika Out" Workshop, October 18 at the Rosemead Community Center from 7-9pm.
“KEEP ZIKA OUT WORKSHOP” PRESENTED BY THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY MOSQUITO AND VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT AND THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH.
The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District and the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, in partnership with the City of Rosemead will be hosting a workshop, “Keep Zika Out” on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Rosemead Community Recreation Center, 3936 North Muscatel Avenue, Rosemead, 91770.
To combat the airborne threat, residents are urged to do their part to combat mosquitos, in order to prevent the insect-borne transmission of the illness. “Everyone in L.A. County can help reduce the risk that Zika could spread here by ensuring mosquitoes don’t breed around their residences,” according to Dr. Benjamin Schwartz, acting director for the Acute Communicable Disease Control program of the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
While 60 travel-related Zika cases have been reported in the Los Angeles County, “To date, no local transmission of Zika virus has been reported in Los Angeles County,” per vector control officials. “However, the Aedes mosquitos that have the potential to spread the virus are present in Los Angeles County.”
Residents are encouraged to attend the workshop to learn more about the importance of preventing mosquito related diseases such as Zika and West Nile Virus.
