Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of possible human bones at a dry wash in the 11700 block of Tujunga Canyon Road, Unincorporated Sylmar, on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:10 a.m.

Homicide Detectives have learned that a work crew hired by the Los Angeles National Forest Service, was clearing brush in a dry wash at the location when they discovered what appeared to be a human skull.  The skull was found lying in the dried brush. 

Investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner- Coroner and the LASD Homicide Bureau responded to the area and confirmed the skull was human.    

It is unknown at this time how or when the skull came to be at the location.  No other bones were found at the time of the discovery.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has recovered the skull and will work with Homicide detectives towards identifying the person and how they died.
