Man critically injured after being struck by a car on the city’s southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Accident investigators are investigating an accident where a man was struck by a vehicle on the city’s southwest side.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on 10/12/2016, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 3000 block of S Mooresville Rd on reports of an accident involving a pedestrian. Responding officers located a male victim down in the roadway with the involved vehicle still on-scene. EMS personnel transported the victim to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

IMPD Accident investigators responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses. Investigators learned that the male victim was lying down in the north lane of Mooresville Rd. A passerby traveling south on Mooresville Rd saw the man and stopped to check on him. Before the passerby could get to the man, a car that was traveling north on Mooresville Rd struck the man. It is believed that the victim may have been on some type of intoxicant. The striking driver was not believed to be intoxicated. The passerby and the driver were cooperating with the investigation.
