On Friday, September 16, 2016, at 11:23 PM, Corcoran Police Officers checked on a suspicious vehicle parked behind bushes and a dumpster in the rear of McDonalds. The Officer approach the vehicle to talk to the occupants.  As he did, the driver, later identified as Acevedo,  put the car into gear and fled the scene west bound on Whitley Avenue. Acevedo continued west bound Whitley Avenue at a high rate of speed.  Acevedo turned south bound on 10th Avenue and continued speeding away.  Acevedo turned his headlights off  to evade law enforcement and and subsequently lost control of his vehicle and rolled it into an empty canal on the east side of the road.  Two female victims were located inside of the vehicle and were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries.

 

Acevedo fled the vehicle on foot through a cotton field. Corcoran Police Department with assistance from Kings County Sheriff's Office Patrol set a perimeter.  A Kings County Sheriff Office K9 Unit was deployed along with air support from California Highway Patrol Helicopter. CHP was able to locate Acevedo who was hiding in the field.  Acevedo was arrested and transported to a hospital for injuries sustained as a result of the accident.  Acevedo fled from the hospital while being cared for and was on the run for a short time.  Acevedo subsequently turned himself in to Corcoran Police Department on Wednesday, October 5th 2016.  He was booked into Kings County Jail for Felony DUI, Child Endangerment, Felony evading of a police officer, Felony hit and run, Furnishing minor controlled substance, and A Tulare County warrant. Acevedo's bail was set at $250,000
