Police K9 Apprehends Burglar Suspect

On Sunday October 9th at 9:15 pm Morgan Hill Officers responded to a home on the 700 block of Mendecino Way to meet with a female who said she saw a male enter her home. At the scene Officers asked her if anyone had permission to be inside her residence and she stated, “No.” After speaking with the victim, officers went to the residence to investigate. Officers called into the residence ordering anyone inside to exit, after a few minutes a male and female came to the door. The suspects were identified as 33 year old Gilbert Pimental from Milpitas and 35 year old Rachel Delgadillo from Morgan Hill. The two of them were questioned and later arrested for burglary. During the conversation with the officers both suspects said there was a third person inside the residence hiding because he was wanted. Based on the new information, Morgan Hill K9 officer responded to the scene with his partner Bosco. As officers entered the house they repeatedly announced who they were and ordered anyone who was hiding to come out. No one responded to the officers orders so the search continued. The search eventually led to the attic where the K9 officer again made the announcement, he and his partner were going to enter the attic and if anyone was hiding they should immediately surrender. Again no one responded to the commands from the officer. Bosco and his handler eventually entered into the attic to conduct a search. After entering the attic Bosco and his handler located 39 year old suspect Teofilo Ponce from Santa Clara hiding in the corner. Suspect Teofilo Ponce resisted arrest and kicked Bosco in the head three times in an attempt to get away but after being stuck in the head multiple times Bosco clamped down on the suspect’s ankle. Suspect Ponce was taken into custody sustaining minor injuries. All three suspects were transported to the Santa Clara County Jail where they were booked.

“The Morgan Hill Police Department wants to remind our community to call the police immediately if they suspect someone has entered their home and to wait outside. Our main concern is for the safety of our community and we would rather be the first to go inside to make sure the residence is safe.”
