Creepy Clowns Advisory
The alarming creepy clown sightings were first reported in August 2016, when police responded to reports of “creepy” clowns trying to lure children into woods in South Carolina and the TELRGRAPH (UK) reported as of October 07, 2016, the @SpookyClownsTwitter account, which has amassed 160,000 followers, is sharing clips and photos of “scary clown sightings”.
The social media-fuelled frenzy involving creepy clown sightings and aggressions, especially on middle school, high schools and university campuses are overwhelmingly unsubstantiated by U.S. law enforcement authorities. Law Enforcement agencies in Canada and Europe are also reporting this phenomenon.
For the most part, students are using the sightings across the country as a means to get out of school and cause turmoil. There are however, documented incidents of students ages 11-14 using the clown scare/internet clown presence to solicit a teacher be killed (VA), threaten a school (TX), arm themselves (knife) for the purpose of self-defense (GA) and close schools (OH)- some schools have banned clown costumes at any Halloween events (CT). There have not been any confirmed sightings in Torrance to date.
The TORRANCE POLICE DEPARTMENT would like to remind all that it is a crime to make a written or verbal threat, copy or repeat any threat against any person or school.
