Lancaster Station lost a hero today 
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we sadly inform you our Station has lost a hero. Sergeant Steve C. Owen was killed today in the line of duty.
Sergeant Owen was tragically struck by gunfire while responding to a burglary call in the city of Lancaster today, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at approximately 12:35 P.M.
He was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition. Unfortunately, his condition worsened and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Sergeant Owen started with the Sheriff’s Department on March 11, 1987. He worked a variety of assignments during his 29 years of service.
He promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2011 and continued his active and involved service to the community of Lancaster. He is survived by his wife Tania, his sons Chad and Brandon, his daughter Shannon and his mother Millie.
It is never easy to say goodbye to a partner and a friend. A true hero to everyone who met him. Our lives and our station will never be the same. Tonight, we grieve our loss.
Tomorrow, we will rise and continue to protect our community just like you would want us to.
