<p><strong>09/26</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Welfare Check:</strong> Officers made contact with an individual who had not shown up for work for 2 weeks.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Found Property:</strong> A black jacket was turned in to the Valdez Police Department. Please call with further descriptors to claim.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Await Trial: </strong>Osvaldo Carrillo, DOB: 07/10/1987, of Valdez checked in to the Valdez Jail to await trial on charges of DUI and Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test. On 9/28 a Valdez Jury convicted Carrillo of both counts. Carrillo was remanded to serve the remainder of his sentence.</p>

<p><strong>Theft of Property:</strong> A caller reported a female attempting to steal books from the Library.</p>

<p><strong>09/27</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Theft of Bicycle:</strong> A bicycle was reported stolen from a local business. The caller later called back and reported the bicycle was returned back to the establishment.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Theft of Property:</strong> An out-of-town caller reported someone from Valdez was trying to sell them stolen merchandise. This case is under investigation.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Public Appearance:</strong> Valdez Police attended the suicide awareness walk with AVV.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Oil Spill:</strong> A caller reported that while a commercial dump truck was being towed, large amounts of oil was left in the roadway. Dispatch notified DEC. Fire Personnel made contact with the responsible party who worked on cleaning up the area with absorbent pads.</p>

<p><strong>09/28</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Theft of Property:</strong> Officers were requested at a local business to view a video of a juvenile concealing merchandise. The juvenile was identified and the parent has been contacted.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Barking Dog:</strong> A caller reported that their neighbor’s dog was continuously barking. ACO responded and found that the dog was tangled in some brush and could not move. The owner was contacted and they took care of the issue.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Public Appearance:</strong> The Animal Control Officer gave 25 2nd graders a tour of the Animal Shelter.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Animal Impound:</strong> A German Sheppard was running around a neighborhood. The Animal Control Officer captured the dog and surrendered it to the Valdez Animal Shelter.</p>

<p><strong>09/29</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Theft of Property:</strong> A caller reported a carton of cigarettes was stolen from their vehicle. Complainant later found them at their office.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Possible Drunk Driver: </strong>A caller reported a blue Ford Focus having a hard time staying in their lane. Officers contacted the driver and did not detect any signs of impairment. The driver claimed that they were not aware they were driving poorly and will pay more attention.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>911 Hang Ups:</strong> Children were repeatedly calling the 911 emergency line and making false reports. Valdez Police Department encourages parents to educate their children on proper use of 911.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Assist EMS:</strong> Officers assisted EMS on a medical call.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Theft of Services:</strong> A local restaurant reported patrons leaving without paying their bill. This case is under investigation.</p>

<p><strong>09/30</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Arrested:</strong> Valton Donald Ward, DOB: 11/24/1981, of Valdez was arrested for Driving w/out a Valid Operator’s License and cited for having an open alcohol container.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Welfare Check:</strong> Several callers reported a young woman walking along the tide flats wearing dark clothes and motorists were unable to see her in the dark. Officers responded and provided the young woman transportation to her destination.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>MICS Marijuana:</strong> A caller reported smelling marijuana at a local business. Officers responded and issued citations for public consumption of marijuana.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Bench Warrant Arrest:</strong> Joseph Harper, DOB: 06/19/1986, of Cedar Rapids, IA was arrested on an outstanding $500 Soldotna warrant for Failure to Appear. Original charge: Driving with a Suspended License.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Reckless Driving:</strong> A driver was reported driving 80-90 mph on the highway and lost control almost causing an accident. An officer was able to track down their place of employment and spoke with the safety coordinator who was going to discuss the issue with the individual.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Agency Assist: </strong>A woman reported that her husband who is hunting alone in the Denali area did not call during their scheduled time. She was concerned he may have been having medical issues. Dispatch contacted Fairbanks State Troopers who were going to respond.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Serve Time:</strong> Anthony Maxim, DOB: 09/09/1994, of Gakona, AK reported to the Valdez Jail to serve a 3 day sentence for Importing Alcohol.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Lost Property:</strong> A flip phone cell phone with a cracked screen was lost in the Valdez Area. If found, please return to the Valdez Police Department.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Bench Warrant Arrest:</strong> Alexander J. Kompkoff, DOB: 05/17/1984, of Valdez was arrested on an outstanding $500 Valdez warrant for Failure to Appear. Original charge was DUI.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>ATV: </strong>Two ATV’s were reported driving recklessly around the tide flats area by Homestead Road where motorized vehicles were prohibited. Officers made contact with the drivers and talked to them about where they can and can’t ride.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Bear Call:</strong> A big black bear was reported on Hanagita. Officers scared the bear back up the mountain.</p>

<p><strong>10/01</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Disturbance Noise:</strong> A noise disturbance was reported at a local hotel. Officers responded and found a group of intoxicated individuals trying to get into their hotel room.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Disturbance Noise:</strong> A caller reported someone was banging on their front door and then their bedroom window. Officers patrolled the area and didn’t find anyone in the area.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Assist EMS:</strong> VPD assisted EMS on a medical call.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Animal DOA:</strong> An officer removed a deceased animal from the roadway.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Family Issues:</strong> Officers were requested to mediate an ongoing issue between a couple. Both parties were given warning for Disorderly Conduct.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Computer Fraud: </strong>A caller requested to speak to an officer regarding their computer and bank accounts being hacked. Valdez Police Department advises to not give out any personal information to unknown individuals.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Lost Property:</strong> A black men’s wallet containing cash, an ID, credit cards, and bank card was lost in the Valdez area. If found, please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Bear Call:</strong> Valdez Police are receiving numerous calls of a sow and a cub between Bremner and Robe River Dr. VPD would like to remind residents to keep all trash put away or disposed of properly to avoid the bears getting into garbage.</p>

<p><strong>10/02</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Welfare Check:</strong> A welfare check was requested on an individual who had left their vehicle parked at the Solomon Gulch trailhead for 2 days. After investigation, it was discovered the individual was fine and was out hunting.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Missing Person:</strong> An individual called reporting that her husband didn’t show up for his goat hunt. After investigation, it was discovered that the individual had spoken to a third party while on his way up the mountain to go goat hunting and that everything was ok.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Found Property:</strong> A girls bicycle was found in Alpine Woods. Contact the Valdez Police Department with descriptors to claim.</p>
