Anchorage Residents May Notice Smoke from JBER Fuel Break Project on the Hillside through Friday.

CONTACT: John W. See

Phone: 907-267-4902

Alaska Division of Forestry Fire Crews are burning slash (woody debris) piles created during a fuel break construction project adjacent to the Stuckagain Heights area. The project is located on JBER property and when completed, will offer additional wildfire protection to the residents nearby. An existing firebreak was modified to increase the width and offer a much improved opportunity for firefighters to stop an advancing fire. Anchorage residents may notice columns of smoke on the hillside over the next few days. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report the smoke. Crews are using the utmost care in burning the piles and there is no threat to the hillside.

Thank you from YOUR Anchorage Fire department!
