Police Department Will Offer Free Text Message Alert System for SBC Fair

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – September 22, 2016 – The Hollister Police Department will be offering a free text message alert system for the 2016 San Benito County Fair.

Hollister Police Department recently upgraded their emergency operations readiness capabilities through their long standing relationship with Nixle / Everbridge. In an effort to test these new capabilities the Hollister Police Department approached the San Benito County Fair with the idea of utilizing the system for alerts specifically related to the 2016 San Benito County Fair.

“The fact that we could both test the new system and possibly help the local fair at the same time is a win-win for Hollister Police Department. Think of it as a localized alert system. We could text users about public safety related events, missing children, traffic issues, hazards and other emergencies could be extremely beneficial. In some cases, the public, through crowd-sourcing could both assist public safety and help warn the public of hazards or other dangerous situations” said Chief Westrick.

Hollister Police Department will work with Fair officials and other local public safety agencies to coordinate messaging.

The alert system can be activated now on smart phones by texting: SBCFair to 888777.
