INDIANAPOLIS-- Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's (IMPD) Hit and Run investigators are searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run accident on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

On Thursday, September 22, 2016, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of N. Michigan Road on a possible deceased male on the side of the road.  When the officers arrived, they found an elderly man with visible signs of trauma to his head.  Indianapolis EMS pronounced the elderly male deceased on scene.  Based upon the injuries observed and evidence found in the roadway, investigators from the Hit & Run Unit were requested to the scene. Investigators believe the elderly man left the Walmart Neighborhood Market shortly after 6:30am and attempted to cross Michigan Road. The victim was then struck by a northbound vehicle based upon evidence left behind in the roadway. At this time, it is believed the driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping to provide information or aid, as required by Indiana law. Investigators believe a green vehicle was involved in this fatal hit & run.

The Marion County Coroner's Office responded to assist with the investigation and will determine the victim's identity. Once the victim has been identified and next-of-kin notification has been made, the victim's name will be released. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact IMPD Crash Investigations Section at (317) 327-6549 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
