Citizen helps Deputy during an arrest of a resistive suspect.

Tuesday, September 13, 2016 Deputy Lambert of Temple Sheriff Station observed a male adult commit a couple misdemeanor violations while riding a bicycle.  Deputy Lambert stopped the suspect and placed him in the back seat of the patrol vehicle un-handcuffed.  A warrant check revealed the suspect had a no-bail felony warrant for a weapons violation.  When the suspect realized he was being arrested, he became enraged, kicked out the rear passenger side window and climbed out of the patrol vehicle.  Deputy Lambert physically struggled to gain control of the suspect and prevent his escape.

A citizen driving by saw the deputy struggling with the suspect.  He stopped his vehicle, exited and approached the deputy and suspect.  The citizen grabbed the suspect around the neck and told him, “Relax and let him handcuff you. Just relax.” The suspect continued to struggle.  The three of them fell to the ground where the deputy and the citizen held the suspect in place until assisting deputies arrived a short time later.

Assisting deputies were able to handcuff the suspect without further incident.

The citizen, who asked that his name not be broadcasted, is an 81 year old local resident.

Deputy Lambert said, “If it hadn’t been for [the citizen] stopping to help me, it could have got real ugly.  That guy did not want to go to jail.”

When the Sheriff’s Department personnel on scene expressed their gratitude to the citizen for stopping to help out an officer in need, the citizen replied, “I would want someone to stop and help if it was me.”

From Temple Sheriff Station thank you for assisting our Deputy.
