Pursuit Ends in Arrest and Recovered Gun

On September 12, 2016 Morgan Hill Officers were in the area of Carriage Dr. and Llagas Rd. to check on a suspicious vehicle which was seen driving in the area for over 20 minutes. Officers located the vehicle parked on the side of the road. As officers walked up to the vehicle the driver sped away. Officers initially pursued the vehicle but because of high traffic in the area the pursuit was cancelled.

As this was occurring information was being called into the Morgan Hill Dispatch center stating the vehicle that fled from police had been involved in a hit and run accident. A witness also called in to say he saw the driver of the vehicle throw a handgun out the window. The handgun was located underneath a VTA bus and taken as evidence by an officer.

With the new information being provided a new search for the vehicle was conducted. As officers drove around the city, the vehicle was eventually located on East Dunne Ave and Hwy 101. Officers again attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over. Morgan Hill Officers pursued the vehicle into Gilroy where the driver eventually exited Hwy 101 on 10th street. The driver continued to lead officers on a pursuit through the surface streets of Gilroy. The pursuit eventually stopped in front of a residence located on Eigleberry St. The driver who was identified as 18 year old Ernesto Garza out of Gilroy was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
