Foot Pursuit Leads To Arrest Of Wanted Suspect

Ripon Police Department officers on Monday arrested a male burglary suspect after a short foot pursuit. A stolen laptop computer was found to be in the suspect’s possession upon arrest.

Justin Alexander Ornellas (23) of Manteca Ca. was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County jail on charges that included burglary, resisting arrest and on an outstanding warrant for resisting arrest said police Lt. Steve Merchant.

The incident occurred Monday just after noon in front of the Ripona Market, at the intersection of W. Washington St. and Key Ave. Ripon officers developed information that Ornellas, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was in possession of a stolen laptop computer that was taken from a residence on Nancy Dr. earlier that morning.

Officers spotted the wanted suspect in front of the Ripona Market. When he saw the officers approaching, Ornellas ran through several blocks before giving up to officers when he saw he couldn’t escape. He was taken into custody without incident.

Department spokesperson, Lt. Steve Merchant said the laptop in this case had been stolen from a residence where doors and windows were left open all night. Merchant said residents should secure doors and windows while sleeping and perimeter alarms should be activated to enhance personal safety.
