Homeowner Takes Action To Repel Suspect

Ripon Police Department officers on Friday arrested a male who reportedly left his vehicle in the roadway, broke through a fence and broke into an occupied home.

Angel Jesse Rodriguez (47) of Palmdale Ca. was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County jail for forcible entry and vandalism, said police Lt. Steve Merchant.

The incident occurred Friday night about 1030 pm in the round-a-bout at Fulton Ave. and Colony Rd. Ripon officers responded to reports that a subject was driving a gray 1990 Honda Accord recklessly with no headlights on. Several concerned citizens saw the suspect run away from his vehicle and enter the yard of a nearby residence on Van Andel Way. The witnesses reportedly heard someone yelling, “I have a gun and will shoot you!”

Ripon officers immediately ran toward the altercation. The suspect was quickly taken into custody as he was climbing back through the hole he had reportedly made in the victim’s fence. Further investigation revealed the following sequence of events.

The suspect reportedly fled from his damaged vehicle, broke through the victim’s fence and forcibly broke into the victim’s residence. The victim, fearing for the safety of this family, armed himself and held the suspect at gunpoint until Ripon officers caught him trying to escape from the victim’s back yard.

During questioning, Rodriguez told investigating officers he fled from his vehicle, broke through the fence and broke into the victim’s home because he was being chased by several carloads of gang members.
