*Update* #LASD SEB Personnel Responding to Armed Barricaded Suspect, 7000 Blk Bandini BL, City of Commerce

Through a joined effort between California Highway Patrol (CHP), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Special Weapons Team, along with East Los Angeles Station deputies and LASD Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) members, the Armed Barricaded suspect on the 7000 block of Bandini Boulevard in the City of Commerce has come to a peaceful resolution.

After maintaining constant telephonic contact with CNT personnel for approximately 30 minutes to an hour and half, at approximately 8:20 p.m. the suspect safely surrendered to SEB personnel.

The incident originated shortly after 11:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2016, in south Orange County after officers from the CHP spotted the suspect driving erratically northbound on the Santa Ana – 5 Freeway.  CHP officers attempted a traffic stop for a possible driving under the influence investigation, however the suspect did not cooperate and subsequently lead CHP in a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit terminated when the suspect stopped his vehicle at the Bandini Boulevard exit on the northbound Santa Ana – 5 freeway in the City of Commerce. The suspect then exited his vehicle armed with an unknown caliber handgun and ran inside a local business on the 7000 block of Bandini Boulevard where he pointed the handgun at several employees.

Fearing for their lives, workers ran out of the building, others sought shelter to get away from the armed suspect.

With the assistance of East Los Angeles Station deputies, all workers were ultimately evacuated from the business where the armed barricaded suspect remained until he surrendered.

At the request of CHP, Special Enforcement Bureau K-9 and a Special Weapons Team along with crisis negotiators, were requested and responded.

The area is industrial and no residences were affected.

LASD’s goal – to reach a peaceful resolution, was accomplished as the suspect ultimately cooperated and surrendered before being taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported and will be booked at East Los Angeles Station.  His identity will not be released at this time, pending positive identification through the booking process.

At this time, the charges and bail amount is not available; this information will become available once the suspect’s identity is confirmed and the booking process is finalized.
