Deputies Intervene And Save Man's Life.

(Harris County, TX) Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 4 patrol deputies J.Coddou, M.Elizondo and probationary patrol deputy S. Trevino are credited with talking a despondent man down from the ledge of State Highway 99 ramp and Interstate 10 west in west Harris County.

On Wednesday, , August 24, 2106 at around 9:20 am, deputies responded to a 911 call of a 25 year old man who was found sitting with his legs over the side of the State Highway 99 entrance ramp.

That part of the ramp is well over 100 feet above the ground. This is also same location where another person previously jumped to their death earlier this month.

Deputies Elizondo and Trevino made contact with the male who was in a mental crisis and threating to jump to end his life.

Deputy Coddou joined the other deputies in trying to start a conversation in order to help the man feel more at ease and to get him to climb down from the ledge.

The deputies were encouraging the man that people cared and loved him, and with the support of his family and the deputies they would get the help he needed.

After about 30 minutes deputy Elizondo asked the man if he wanted some water to drink. The male stated he would climb down for some water. Deputy Elizondo and a Harris County EMT escorted him safely from the ledge.

The male was evaluated by medical personnel and was admitted to Harris County Neuro Psychiatric Center for a mental health evaluation.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies J.Coddou, M. Elizondo and S. Trevino displayed true compassion and professionalism in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.

Deputies used their skills and talents to talk with this individual and develop a bond between him and the deputies.

Their actions have exemplified the Harris County Sheriff’s Department core value of “Protect our citizens with honor and courage” and “Embracing and deliver professional service”.
