Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 08-16-16 at 2:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Lucky’s supermarket on a report of a disturbance. Dispatchers advised that the subject was throwing rocks at the store, and that the store security guard may have been the victim of an assault with a deadly weapon via throwing of the rocks. The security guard said earlier in the morning around 7:00, he noticed a subject wearing a large black coat to his knees had entered the store and walked slowly to the alcohol section. The security guard saw the subject leave the store with the jacket looking heavier that it did when he entered. The guard asked the subject to take the items out of his jacket, and the subject voluntarily removed the alcoholic beverages from his pockets. The security guard said around 1:30 p.m., he noticed the same subject leaving the store with a three pack set of 32-ounce liquor. The subject told the security guard, “Hey I’ll give it to you”, stepped away from the security guard, grabbed a nearby rock and threw it at the security guard. The subject retrieved more rocks and threw them at the security guard and left the area. About 10 minutes later, the subject returned with a glass bottle and threw that and more rocks at the security guard. The security guard was not injured. With the help of surveillance cameras, the subject was identified, and two days later the 22-year old subject was arrested at his home in San Francisco for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, trespassing and offensive words in public.

On Wednesday, 08-17-16 at 5:00 p.m., an 88-year old Daly City resident was the victim of an attempted theft by false pretenses. The victim said his wife first received a phone call from their “nephew” who was crying profusely. The victim’s wife handed him the phone, and the caller said he was “Officer Mike Rawly” and that his nephew was arrested during a traffic stop where someone else was driving and his nephew was the passenger. “Rawly” told the victim that his nephew was booked, and if he wanted to get him out of jail, he would need to get four iTunes cards and put $500 on each card and instructed him to go to CVS, Target, Walgreens or GameStop to get the cards. The victim tried to go to Target, but they advised him they could not put that amount onto the cards. The victim thought perhaps it was a scam and called his nephew who said he was home all day. Luckily this gentleman did not lose anything.

On Thursday, 08-18-16 at 4:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Victoria’s Secret store on a report of a petty theft involving three subjects who were carrying three large Macy’s bags filled with items. When Officer Murillo responded to the parking lot, Serramonte security pointed towards a vehicle that was driving away and said the suspects were inside the vehicle. This ultimately led to the arrest of three subjects between the ages of 18-21 from Oakland and Daly City for commercial burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime and another suspect, a 20-year old from San Francisco for an outstanding warrant.

On Sunday, 08-21-16 at 8:32 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building on the 2600 block of Geneva Avenue on a report of a subject who had possibly broken into the building. Dispatchers provided a description of the subject to the officers, but they were unable to locate him. The reporting party told the officers that the subject didn’t actually break into the building but was lingering in the lobby area and says he commonly bothers residents. The officers found the subject matching the description at the KFC restaurant and asked him what he was doing there. The 42-year old subject said he was homeless and just trying to warm up. The officers asked the subject if had anything illegal on him, such as drugs, and the subject said he didn’t. The subject consented to a search, and the officer found a bulge in the suspect’s sock and found a bindle of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. The officer asked the suspect what it was, and he said it was “crystal”. The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and told not to return to the apartment complex or he would be arrested for trespassing.

Robberies

There was one robbery during the past week.

On Monday, 08-15-16 at 8:35 a.m., a 21-year old San Francisco resident said he was slowly driving around the entire Bayshore district looking for his dog that got loose from his residence. The victim said at one point he made a right turn onto westbound MacDonald Avenue from Bayshore Boulevard when he saw a black or dark charcoal Chrysler or Dodge driving behind him and honking the horn. The victim said he stopped to see what the driver wanted, and as he opened his door, three subjects came out of the vehicle, walked up to his car, and one of them pulled him out by his hair, threw him to the ground and kicked him in the face 3-4 times and told him not to look up. The victim said he didn’t see the driver but described two of the subjects as being either Samoan or Hispanic males in their mid to late 20’s. The victim said as his face was on the pavement, he thought he heard one of the suspects going through his vehicle. The victim said the suspects got back into their vehicle and sped off. The victim said his wallet containing cash and his driver's license was missing from the vehicle. This case has been referred to investigators.

On Wednesday, 08-17-16 at 9:15 a.m., officers responded to the unit block of Lausanne Avenue on the report of a fraud. The 38-year old reporting party said she responded to a Craiglist ad about renting a room. The reporting party said she e-mailed the suspect “George Sanabria”, and he told her he would send her a rental agreement and the keys to the property if she sent a $600 deposit to him via Western Union. Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
