Is your family prepared for a disaster?  The fact is that many families are not prepared but you can change that by attending our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course which begins in September.  The free course will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room at the North Aurora Police Department, 200 S. Lincolnway, beginning September 14^th and concluding on October 26^th.  Interested students should apply right away as spots in the class are limited.

The topics of the course are: Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Fire Suppression, Disaster Medical Operations (2 parts), Light Search and Rescue Operations, Disaster Psychology and Team Organization, and Course Review and Disaster Simulation.

After the conclusion of the course, attendees who successfully complete the course may apply to volunteer on our CERT team.  CERT volunteers are typically used to assist first responders during disasters, other emergencies, or planned special events.  You may have seen them in their yellow t-shirts & reflective vests last weekend helping with a variety of tasks during North Aurora Days.  Basic uniforms & equipment as well as monthly training are provided at no cost to volunteers.
