Armed Bank Robbery - Redwood Credit Union, 1010 Grant Avenue, Novato

For Immediate Release: August 23, 2016
Contact: Lt. Michael Howard or Sgt. Jennifer Dunlap, (415) 897-4361

On 08/23/2016, at 1241 hours, Novato Police received several telephone calls from alert citizens reporting a black male adult donning a mask and entering the Redwood Credit Union. Several Novato Police patrol units responded to investigate.

Upon police arrival, it was determined that a male suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect pointed the handgun at employees and jumped over the bank teller’s counter. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller’s drawer and fled the bank. None of the bank employees or customers were injured during the robbery.

Additional officers and detectives responded to the scene. Several witnesses came forward and provided information, which was instrumental in identifying and locating the suspect. The suspect’s vehicle description and license plate number were obtained. With the assistance of a bank security tracking device, detectives responded to a location indicated by the GPS and located the vehicle. Officers responded and established a perimeter. A suspect was detained on Cutlass Drive and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, evidence was obtained. Additional evidence was located and the suspect was identified as Jacaree Carter (12/12/1987 – Novato Resident). Carter was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for 211 PC – Robbery and 12022.5 PC - Use of a firearm during commission of a felony.

The Novato Police Department would like to thank the California Highway Patrol and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this investigation. We would also like to thank the alert citizens who reported the suspicious activity prior to a crime being committed, and the alert citizens who remained in the area to provide police with valuable information, leading to the suspect’s apprehension and arrest.
