On 08-23-16 Sheriff’s Office Detective Jesse Tovar identified a 10 year-old boy who attends Emily Ross Middle School in Hughson, CA as the responsible person in a criminal threats investigation. The investigation resulted from a threatening cell phone message a 14 year-old Emily Ross Student received on 08-17-16.
The text message stated that when she showed up for school the next day she would die and the message had come from an unknown cell phone number. Hughson Police Services was called to investigate the threatening cell phone message.
Detective Jesse Tovar and Deputy Dennis Wallace began to interview students and authored search warrants to identify who had sent the text message. Detective Tovar found that a 10 year-old boy had the cell phone and it belonged to his mother. During the course of the investigation Detective Tovar learned the 10 year-old boy attended Emily Ross Middle School and that he had sent the text message as a joke.
Based off the investigation and the boys age the case has been referred to the District Attorney’s Office for Criminal Threats. The student’s parents and Hughson Unified School District have been notified of the findings of the investigation and its disposition.
